The Lake of Stars festival takes place on the shores of Lake Malawi, at the Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi. Think sandy beaches, perfect weather, good Malawian vibes and music. Now in its 6th year Lake of Stars is the brainchild of Will Jameson who first visited Malawi in 1998 during his gap year as a volunteer with the Wildlife Society in Dwangwa. During his 6 months ‘sojourn’ he also traveled to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique and was introduced to Chibuku Shake Shake beer which is popular in the region. Upon his return to Liverpool Will decided to start a clubnight with friends Damo Jones, Charlene McDaid and Rich McGinnis which they named after the beer. Chibuku Shake Shake went on to win Best UK Club in the Mixmag Awards in 2004.
In the same year Will launched the first Lake of Stars festival headlined by Groove Armada’s Andy Cato.
The festival won the Malawi Tourism Award in its first year and is now one of the highlights of the international festival calendar. This years Lake of Stars is powered by volunteers and will take place on the 15-17th of October.
